About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Chatham at 13-15 Watling Street, The Watling Rasoi offers a vibrant and authentic dining experience for lovers of Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine. This takeout and dine-in restaurant masterfully combines traditional flavors with a warm, friendly atmosphere that invites guests to savor every bite.

The menu is a treasure trove of rich, aromatic dishes that cater to a variety of palates. Classics like the creamy, indulgent Butter Chicken and succulent Lamb Chops captivate with their depth of flavor, while lighter options such as the crispy Fried Courgette and delicately spiced Samosa offer delightful starters. For those craving something truly special, the Rasoi Special Kebab Platter is a standout, showcasing expertly grilled meats with a perfect balance of smoky and spicy notes.

The restaurant’s biryanis are a celebration of regional authenticity and vibrant colors on a plate. Whether it’s the classic Chicken or Lamb Biryani, the fragrant Chicken Tikka & Mushroom Biryani, or the luxurious King Prawn Biryani, each dish bursts with saffron-infused rice, tender meat, and a complexity of spices that awaken the senses. Vegetable options, like the Vegetable Biryani with Tarka Daal, also commend this inclusive menu.

Complementing these offerings, The Watling Rasoi cleverly includes a selection of English comfort dishes such as Chicken Nuggets & Chips and savory omelettes, providing a welcoming option for diverse tastes and families.

The atmosphere here strikes a perfect balance—relaxed and inviting, yet buzzing with enthusiastic chatter and the gentle clatter of cutlery, reflecting a place that values both authenticity and community. The staff consistently receive praise for their friendly and attentive service, making every guest feel personally cared for even during the busiest evenings.

Patrons like Hannah Brown praise the restaurant’s “lovely food” and “really quick, tasty” service, while Dave Rose calls Watling Rasoi his “most favourite Indian food by far” thanks to its consistent quality and welcoming staff. Cliffe Heating & Plumbing highlights the “excellent food” and “very reasonably priced” experience, reinforcing that this isn’t just about great taste but also about delivering fantastic value. John Byron, arriving all the way from Australia, hails Watling Rasoi as “one of the best Indian restaurants in the region,” an endorsement that speaks volumes about its commitment to culinary excellence. Similarly, Mark Collins’s repeated visits during the holiday rush underline the dependable quality and atmosphere that keep customers coming back.

In essence, The Watling Rasoi is more than just a restaurant—it's a culinary destination where rich spices, heartfelt hospitality, and authentic recipes meet. 5 STARS WELL DESERVED ONE OF THE BEST INDIAN RESTAURANT IN THE REGION. One of the highlights of coming to the UK from Australia over the years was to experiencing a really good English indian restaurant. Up until now I thought I had settled on what I felt was the best however the new Watling Rasoi has made me reconsider everything. The food and tge thought that has gone into the menu is exceptional. I love everything about this restaurant and will be travelling back to visit with them again and again in March 2026. Highly recommended!!!!@

It's the second time I've been to The Watling and both times have been excellent. Food was lovely the best Indian I've had in a long time. Also, even though they were extremely busy on a Friday evening near Christmas, the service was still good. We will be back when we are next in the area. ... PREVIOUS REVIEW In unfamiliar surroundings and looking for a nice Indian restaurant we found Watling Rasoi on Google. It seemed to have nice reviews and pictures looked good. We called on a Easter Thursday and managed to get a table within 15 minutes. Wow, it was lovely. A very friendly welcome and very accommodating even though we wanted a different table. Great selection of drinks and probably the best draft Cobra I've had in a long time. They even had Cranberry juice!.. Great selection of dishes, Salmon Tikka, and other Salmon dishes. Nice to see Broccoli side and Courgette side, we indulged in both . Poppadoms were fresh crispy and Tasty with a good selection of chutneys. Garlic Chili Chicken was also very tasty. The service was friendly and efficient throughout the whole evening without being overbearing. Such a lovely find at last minute. Thank you very much guys we will be back.

We went to The Watling Rasoi for the first time (party of 4), and we're all very impressed . It is small but well-appointed establishment, with the most comfortable seats that I have ever sat in, in a restaurant. The food was universally well-received, being well cooked with subtly different, but superior flavouring compared with our usual restaurant, and, pleasingly, there was no rush from the staff to take the orders or clear the plates, which can prove irritating at times. We were left to have a very nice meal at our own pace. As I had made the booking, and our friends make an effort to come to us, I was apprehensive that a "new" restaurant would not live up to their expectations; actually they requested that we go back to The Watling Rasoi again! Thoroughly recommended.

Absolutely delicious! The food here is authentic, halal, and bursting with flavour – every dish was cooked to perfection. The place is also comfortable with air conditioning, which made the dining experience even better. Honestly, the food is AMAZING some of the tastiest Indian dishes I’ve had in a long time. Highly recommend!
